The Island Chordsmen Plus is an ensemble of men and women drawn together by our appreciation and enjoyment of four-part, a cappella, barbershop-style music, sung in the men’s voice range. We sing because it’s fun. We have no age limit and no audition; our only requirement for membership is a willingness to learn the songs, aid-and-abet and encourage each other in the process, and sing with joy.
We work to improve the quality of our singing individually, in chorus, and in quartets. We support each other as we explore new singing skills and we teach each member to sing to their potential.
We encourage a cappella singing in the community. We perform our music publicly to bring enjoyment to the community, and we hold ourselves to high standards.
Under the direction of Angel Michaels, the Island Chordsmen Plus rehearses most every Thursday nights, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Village at the Harbour on Spring Street. Sing-outs in the community happen throughout the year, with special emphasis on Valentine’s Day and on the Barbershop Bonanza, the Chordsmen’s big show at the San Juan Community Theatre on the first Sunday of June every year.
